The Devils (1971), directed by Ken Russell, will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 30 October.
Before its release in 1971, scenes were cut at the request of the distributor and British censors due to the film’s religious, sexual and violent content. The restored version follows Russell’s instructions and marks the first officially released version to come closest to his original vision.
The 4K restoration was carried out using the original camera negative for the picture, while the sound was restored from the original 35mm composite magnetic track. The restored version was also screened earlier this year in the ‘Cannes Classics’ section of the Cannes Film Festival. Click here for details.
